William Montgomery- British Sniper My Car My Girlfriend "Whitey"and I, he's the bloke with the machine gun Remember Belgium!
My Journal

My name is William Montgomery. I'm with the British 7th Infantry Division. I'm a sniper on the western front of the war in Europe. France is a beautiful place and I wish every one in the world could see these sunsets, they're the best money can buy! The war is going well though. We've push the Hun back almost out of France, but their machine guns are very effective weapons. I don't like this war but I make the best of it, my country entered the war because the Germans attacked Belgium, wrong move on their part if I might add! Now they have to deal with me! I guess I could understand why the Austro-Hungarians did it. It was horrible what the Serbs did to the Arch Duke, I mean if someone would have done that to one of the royal family members all of Britain would be up in arms. Well I must get back to fighting they've just started back up the artillery bombardment.
My Buddies and Me Preparing for a gas attack
April 3rd, 1917
I barely got any sleep last night because of the bombardment. We've been fortifying our position for some time now in antisipation of a German assault. When it was getting dark last night an enemy soldier was sneaking up to our position, he was about 250 meters out, I could of killed him but I knew this war wasn't his doing, I knew it wasn't his fault. I raised my rifle anyway, "Crack", I fired a warning round off, it hit the ground about 2 meters to the right of him. I ordered my men not to fire and let him run back to his trench. My body count so far is about 57, I don't enjoy it or anything, I just do my job. I'll write later, we've just heard the enemy whistle blow!
One of Our Tanks Leading a Charge
April 6th, 1917
I feel well rested and overall moral is high. We've had only about 12 casualties in the past 3 days and the Hun have fallen back a little bit. The Russians government is collapsing and their troops are heading back home to fight in the revolution but today the Yanks declared war on Germany! I've heard that their troops are some of the best in the world. They're probably going to be a better ally than Russia because their government and economy are in good shape. A few million of their men will be here soon to reinforce the western front and fight along side us. I can't wait, plus their troops are fresh and their morale is high. Sorry got to go, it's my turn on guard duty.
Finally, Some Rest
That's Me and my Spotter
June 28th, 1919
Sorry I haven't been writing, it's been kind of hectic out there. The Germans threw everything they had at us and it still wasn't enough! The war is over now and I think I'll go back to civilian life soon because of it. I'll miss the army and all the friends I lost in battle. They will never be forgotten. The Treaty of Versailles should solve all of our problems, the newly formed League of Nations will make sure that no war on this scale will ever happen again, or so they say. I just think it is simply peace and a man like me is in no position to argue with a proposition so sweet. I mean what's it been?, like 4 or 5 years since the war started, and millions of men lost their lives. Now it's all over, we don't have to fight anymore, things will go back to normal. It's over, and I pray to God it never happens again. What these men, including myself, went through was unbearable, and for this to be over now is a blessing. Yesterday men died on the battlefield, that didn't happen today and it won't happen tomorrow, it's all over, no more killing.
